The addon installed from the new Asset Store has version of 0.1.0

In the store page, the version dropdown menu lists 0.20.1 and 0.18.2, but once I downloaded the v0.20.1 and installed it into the addon folder, the plugin.cfg file there states version="0.1.0". I'm not sure if that's because the file is missing so it's auto generated?

The reason is that the formatter itself is a standalone program with its own version and that's what the store version reflects. The add-on is a thin integration layer into Godot that downloads, installs, and uses the latest version of the formatter. The add-on itself does not need or get many changes, the formatter executable that the add-on uses does the heavy lifting.

I've chosen to make the version on the store reflect the version of the formatter program because that's what's getting continuous development and improvements. By bumping the version number users of the store get notified that the formatter itself got improvements. Does this make sense?

thanks nathan! that makes sense. I haven't tried the new asset store a lot yet, does it notify users when an addon gets update? can we finally manage and update addons within the engine itself without requiring external tools or scripts?

The new asset store is currently a replacement of the former free asset library. And right now, it gives you some improvements. But I don't know how much it does in terms of package management for you. I think if you use it from within Godot, the experience is going to be similar with some new options like the ability to pick very specific version of an add-on to install into your project.

On the asset store website, you can create a library where you save/bookmark favorite addons.

That's all I can say for the time being. But I'm sure it'll get documented and also improve over time.
