[BUG] RTD and ruff tests linking to wrong merge

Describe the bug in words

@kennethshsu merged in the Friedland Chapter 8 PR yesterday.

This merge was then successfully built by RTD

However, test suite on this merge somehow links to a failing doc build test.

How can the bug be reproduced?

merge tests don't cross-link
