Unable to update EIM (IEP-1770)

Describe the bug
EIM is installed through the Espressif-IDE and when launched prompts there is a new update available, using either the winget or download links fail to update EIM to the latest version with the latter just donwloading a new .exe. but not installing it.
We need to update due to IDF version showing as '-128-NOTFOUND'

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behaviour:

1. Open ESP-IDF Manager from Espressif-IDE
2. New version available prompt shows, click it
3. Attempt one of the update methods

Expected behavior
There should a clear and possible way to update EIM through Espressif-IDE

Based on the available documentation, here are the supported methods to update EIM (ESP-IDF Installation Manager):

Updating EIM

On Windows

Option 1: WinGet (Recommended)

winget upgrade Espressif.EIM

Option 2: Direct Download
Download the latest installer from:

• Espressif Download Page
• GitHub Releases

Then run the downloaded .exe installer. [EIM Getting Started]

Regarding the Espressif-IDE itself, if you also need to update the IDE plugin, you can do so via:

1. Go to Help > Check for Updates in Eclipse/Espressif-IDE.
2. If updates are found, select Espressif IDF Plugins for Eclipse and deselect all other items.

Important note: The knowledge sources do not contain specific information about the bug you described (EIM update prompt within Espressif-IDE failing, or the -128-NOTFOUND IDF version issue). For that specific bug, I'd recommend:

• Reporting it directly on the idf-eclipse-plugin GitHub issues page, which you appear to have already done.
• As a workaround, try updating EIM independently using winget upgrade Espressif.EIM outside of the IDE, rather than through the in-IDE prompt.

I have managed to override the installer within the C:\Users<user>.espressif\eim_gui directory and re-installed v5.5.2 IDF however we are now seeing the IDF version reporting failing in a different way:

I (563) VERSION: IDF version used: HEAD-HASH-NOTFOUND

I cannot find any reference to this issue however the reporting of IDF versions seems to have broken since the introduction of EIM.

Yes, at the moment, if you choose the manual update of EIM, the only way to update EIM is to manually replace the C:\Users\<user>\.espressif\eim_gui\eim-gui-windows-x64.exe file with a newer version.

However, I’m also interested in the second issue related to: I (563) VERSION: IDF version used: HEAD-HASH-NOTFOUND
You mentioned that you re-installed v5.5.2 IDF , just to make sure, do you remember how did you delete IDF v5.5.2 before re-installation ? manually of using EIM dashboard ?

@AndriiFilippov I used EIM to delete the installation as your image shows above.

I have since installed v6.0.1 and that works OK, so I am not sure if it is a compatibility issue with some versions of v5.5.x

this doesnt work, winget cant upgrade

this works

winget install Espressif.EIM --force

or a specific version with

winget install Espressif.EIM --version 0.12.5 --force
