Within the F# ecosystem, there are a number of commonly used augmentations that typically get maintained as internal helpers within libraries and applications, manually copied around in various ways. Examples of such helpers:

• TaskEx: ignore #140 Async.ignore / Task.ignore / ValueTask.ignore
• TaskEx: AwaitTaskCorrect / Task.toAsync / Async.ofTask #141
• TaskEx: Async.startImmediateAsTask #142
• TaskEx: parallelLimit #143

While it can be argued that many of these concerns should be addressed in FSharp.Core, these are being logged here first in an attempt to narrow down the number of suggestions, with a view to getting stable naming (and potentially a shims library of some kind as a stopgap). NOTE that building a one stop shop for lots of arbitrary helpers is a non-goal of this effort.

• naming discussion regarding Immediate/Background/Synchronously. The proposed APIs should adhere strongly to the conventions of FSharp.Core

The TaskEx helpers proposed here (especially Task.ignore / ValueTask.ignore from #140) remain absent from FSharp.Core as of 8.x. The closest thing added in FSharp.Core 8.0 was Task.map, which means callers can write |> Task.map ignore as a reasonable workaround today — though this is less discoverable than a dedicated Task.ignore.

Looking at how the TaskSeq library has evolved:

• The sub-issues (TaskEx: AwaitTaskCorrect / Task.toAsync / Async.ofTask #141, TaskEx: Async.startImmediateAsTask #142, TaskEx: parallelLimit #143) are milestoned to vFuture, so they're clearly deferred pending a decision on whether this library is the right home for standalone Task/Async helpers.
• Issue TaskEx: AwaitTaskCorrect / Task.toAsync / Async.ofTask #141 (Async.ofTask / Task.toAsync) has some overlap with what was already addressed in PR [Repo Assist] fix: async { for x in taskSeq } no longer wraps exceptions in AggregateException #321 (the async { for x in taskSeq } fix) — but the general-purpose public helpers are still unimplemented.
• The naming discussion linked from this issue (regarding Immediate/Background/Synchronously) is worth keeping in mind if these are ever implemented, since FSharp.Core conventions should take precedence.

One concrete step that might unblock these: decide whether this library should expose a TaskEx / AsyncEx module at all, or whether these helpers are out of scope pending a FSharp.Core proposal. A short note in the issue body or a label change (e.g. wontfix or help wanted) would help set expectations for community contributors who may want to pick these up.
