I know we have our first, material candidate PR for 9.0.0 with #3827 . But it is too early for 9.0.0.

I propose to keep churning 8.5.x / 8.x.0 while clearing the backlog. I started to address documentation-only issue recently and have other small quality of life improvements from other projects to contribute back. And I'm pretty sure I'll stumble upon breaking changes along the way.

I think we should keep accumulating at least 2~3 breaking PRs before thinking of a 9.0.0.
