fix(sync): keep generated meta descriptions complete and within 160 chars - #181
Conversation
…hars
The docs repo asks every page for a 40-160 character meta description, but
get_description_from_content() lost the summary in two ways:
* The English sentence split (". " + uppercase lookahead) never matched a
localized page, because Korean and friends start the next sentence with a
non-ASCII letter. Those pages fell through to a hard 180-char cut, so 888
Korean descriptions ended mid-sentence.
* The fallback cut sliced through words ("... plug it into Latent Apply
Operation or La"), and the 180-char cap was above the documented window.
Now the split also accepts a non-ASCII sentence start, the shorten step cuts
on the last sentence, clause or word boundary instead of a raw character
index, the cap is the documented 160, and the Korean disclaimer marker
("AI가 생성", previously only "AI에 의해 생성") is skipped so those pages no
longer advertise the disclaimer as their description.
Re-running the sync regenerates ~890 ko + ~100 en descriptions; existing
descriptions are otherwise unchanged.
Regenerated with the fixed description extractor (Comfy-Org/embedded-docs#181): the English description no longer ends in "or La" and the Korean one no longer ends mid-sentence.

- Around line 814-816: Update _first_sentence to search for ASCII-uppercase and
non-ASCII sentence boundaries together, or compare both matches and select the
earliest position, so it never skips an earlier Korean sentence boundary in
favor of a later English one.
- Around line 834-835: Update the sentence-ending search that assigns last_ender
to scan the full text, then keep only matches whose end position is within
limit. This preserves the following character for boundary checks, preventing a
period inside a version such as “ver2.5” from being treated as a sentence ending
when head is sliced at that period.
- Around line 840-843: Update the clause-boundary selection for head so it
compares positions across all separators and returns the latest one that exceeds
_MIN_DESCRIPTION_CHARS, rather than returning the first usable separator in the
loop order.
Review comments at @docs-generation/tests/test_sync_helpers.py:
- Around line 118-122: Update test_truncation_keeps_versions_intact to exercise
get_description_from_content truncation: add a prefix that positions the period
in “2.5” at the 160-character boundary, then assert the truncated description
does not end in “2.”.

…the full text Review follow-up: * _first_sentence tried the uppercase rule before the non-ASCII rule, so a later English sentence boundary won over an earlier Korean one and short paragraphs produced multi-sentence descriptions. Both boundaries are now compared and the earliest wins. * _trim_to_length looked for sentence endings inside the sliced text, where a trailing period could only be judged against end-of-string: a limit landing right after the period of "ver2.5" was accepted as a sentence end. Endings are now searched in the full text and filtered to those within the limit. * dropped the full-width !/? from the ending set (Ruff RUF001).
… truncate Review follow-up: * the clause cut returned the first separator type that matched, so an early comma beat a later semicolon or CJK separator. All separators are compared and the latest position wins (noqa RUF001 for the full-width ones). * test_truncation_keeps_versions_intact used an input shorter than the limit, so it never exercised the cut; it now repeats the phrase past the limit and asserts the text really was shortened. * new test_latest_clause_separator_wins covers the separator ordering.
Summary
get_description_from_content()seeds every built-in node page's frontmatterdescription.Comfy-Org/docsAGENTS.md asks for 40 to 160 characters, but the extractor lost the summary in two ways:\.\s+(?=[A-Z])requires an uppercase ASCII letter after the period. Korean starts the next sentence with a non-ASCII letter, so those pages fell through to the hardparagraph[:180]cut: 888 Korean descriptions end mid-sentence (for example... 맞게 최근접 이웃 보간으로 크기가).... plug it into Latent Apply Operation or La.Change
e.g./i.e.), and the earliest of the two boundaries wins,MAX_DESCRIPTION_CHARS = 160in both the extractor andbuild_frontmatter(same value the docs repo documents),AI가 생성; the filter only knewAI에 의해 생성, so those pages advertised the "AI generated" notice as their description).Tests
python3 -m unittest tests.test_sync_helpers-> 25 tests OK, including six new regressions: no mid-word cut, Korean sentence break, earliest boundary wins, Korean disclaimer skipped, decimals (2.5) not treated as sentence enders, and a version period sitting exactly on the limit.Blast radius
The next full sync regenerates about 900 ko and 100 en descriptions (all of them currently truncated or cut mid-word); zh and ja are unchanged apart from one page each. Pages whose description is already a complete first sentence are untouched. The consuming pull request is Comfy-Org/docs#1938, which already carries the regenerated output for the new page (re-running the sync against it is idempotent).
