Questions:

• I am still on the fence over which are learning methods and which are delivery methods. They seem complementary
• CEDS has a CourseLevel of accelerated The definition is not very helpful. What does this mean as a level? Is it a match for a delivery type of accelerated
• Guided Study may just be the combination of Asynchronous delivery + InstructorLed learning. learnMethod:SelfPaced may be in the mix too. Do we need it?

Accelerated is the pace at which the learning occurs as the content delivery is compressed into a shorter time period. https://www.wccnet.edu/learn/accelerated-pros-cons.php

Guided study is a format where independent learning occurs with ongoing support, feedback and supervision. https://www.tesu.edu/degrees-programs/courses/guided-study.php

Guided study can be a combined with asynchronous delivery. TESU assigns mentors. It doesn't seem like it's instructor lead, rather it is guided.

Accelerated courses are often considered more advanced, since they compress learning into a shorter time frame. This is probably why CEDS has it as a course level.

We may need to consider adding Independent Study as well as Guided Study. These courses are very common in the US. CEDS has it as an instruction method, though the definition isn't great. Independent study courses are typically supervised by an instructor, but are student-directed and more hands-off than a guided study course.

OK, I get why CEDS puts Accelerated under a level. They are conflating the students needing to be smarter/work faster with the material being more advanced. Let's not do that.

If you think users will in practice make consistent distinctions between Guided Study / Independent Study / Self-Paced + Instructor-Led and so on we can add it. I think it worth adding: PhDs are very much independent (more in the UK than the US from what I gathered talking to US PhD students)

@philbarker This makes a lot of sense to me. learnMethod:Independent could apply to undergraduate independent study courses, master's- and PhD-level dissertation and research courses, and more.
