Why the Github version is getting blocked by the Play Protect? While on Google Play Store is still fine?

It tells me that it will put my device at risk, along with an "install anyway" button

Are you trying to install it from github while having the playstore version already installed? The only thing i can think of is that the playstore and github version have different signing keys so if you have one installed and try to install the other over it it will complain

Nope, if I was trying to install while having the play store version installed, it will simply say that it cannot be installed.

Its normal for phones where you have play protect enabled, most of the power users (and people who use apk files to install apps) usually disable it. It's basically saying the app might be harmful because it is not on playstore, as the GitHub version uses a different signing key so it cannot recognize even though this app is on playstore so it gives the normal usual warning, nothing dangerous.

I would suggest you to install it officially from Playstore if you are unsure about the GitHub version, both are from the same codebase anyways.

@devwithzachary This can be closed as it's neither a bug nor something we can fix manually, adding a small note in README.md instead can work much better if yk like if you want to let users know about this in advance before they open new issue on this
