Summary

The ESP32-S3-EYE entry on the contest hardware page was missing several peripherals that are already adapted on this branch, and pointed participants at an AI stack that cannot be used on openvela.

The most consequential omission: the QMA7981 3-axis accelerometer was not documented at all. Submissions were being reviewed under the assumption that the board has no IMU, which led to interaction designs being downgraded unnecessarily (e.g. tap/knock detection falling back to the single BOOT button).

Changes

Single file: zh-cn/contest_2026/hardware_porting/supported_hardware.md

  1. Added the adapted-peripheral table with device nodes. Previously undocumented: QMA7981 accelerometer (/dev/accel0), microSD (/dev/mmcsd1), BLE 5 (bnep0), BOOT button (/dev/buttons), power LED (/dev/userleds).

  2. Added two hardware limits that affect project feasibility:

    • No touch panel — /dev/input0 returns ENOENT by design.
    • No speaker/amplifier — the openvela defconfig has # CONFIG_ESP32S3_I2S0_TX is not set, so there is no audio output path. Proposals that need voice playback must pick a board with a codec or add an external amplifier.
  3. Removed the "ESP-WHO AI framework" claim. ESP-WHO / ESP-DL are ESP-IDF-private stacks and are not available on openvela. Replaced with explicit guidance: use apps/mlearning/tflite-micro for on-device inference, and note that the openvela camera example only captures and displays frames — it does not perform inference.

Item 3 matters because the old wording implied a ready-made face-detection pipeline. At least one submission planned around "modify the existing face detection example", which does not exist on the openvela side.

Verification

All facts cross-checked against the same branch:

  • vendor_espressif/boards/esp32s3/esp32s3-eye/README_zh-cn.md — supported-peripheral table, device node list, and the documented limitations section
  • vendor_espressif/boards/esp32s3/esp32s3-eye/configs/openvela/defconfig — CONFIG_SENSORS_QMA7981=y, CONFIG_ESP32S3_CAM=y, CONFIG_ESP32S3_BLE=y, CONFIG_GRAPHICS_LVGL=y, # CONFIG_ESP32S3_I2S0_TX is not set

No content changes to any other board entry.

The ESP32-S3-EYE entry was missing several peripherals that are already
adapted on the dev-ai-contest-2026 branch, and pointed participants at an
AI stack that cannot be used on openvela.

Changes:
- Add the adapted-peripheral table with device nodes, sourced from
  vendor_espressif/boards/esp32s3/esp32s3-eye/README_zh-cn.md. Notably the
QMA7981 3-axis accelerometer (/dev/accel0) was not documented at all, so
entries were being reviewed under the assumption that the board has no
IMU. microSD, BLE, BOOT button and power LED were also undocumented.
- Note the two hardware limits that affect project feasibility: no touch
panel (/dev/input0 returns ENOENT by design) and no speaker/amplifier
(the openvela defconfig only enables I2S0 RX, so there is no audio
  output path).
- Drop the "ESP-WHO AI framework" claim and state explicitly that
  ESP-WHO / ESP-DL are ESP-IDF-private stacks unavailable on openvela.
On-device inference should use apps/mlearning/tflite-micro; the openvela
camera example only captures and displays frames, it does not infer.

All facts verified against the vendor board README and
configs/openvela/defconfig on the same branch.
