This allows you to run
pull --upstream-commit 2026-09-19, so that you can pull from a specific nightly version, without looking up its commit (in fact before using--upstream-commitwith the nightly mode was forbidden).This is useful when bootstrapping the
git subtree-> Josh migration for projects usingrust-toolchain.toml, but I think it can be generally useful for those projects when doing syncs, so that they can select from which nightly they want to pull.
