Tracking Issue for large_assignments lint #83518

Open

Description

@oli-obk

This is a tracking issue for the implementation of the MCP rust-lang/compiler-team#420
The feature gate for the issue is #![feature(large_assignments)].

About tracking issues

Tracking issues are used to record the overall progress of implementation.
They are also used as hubs connecting to other relevant issues, e.g., bugs or open design questions.
A tracking issue is however not meant for large scale discussion, questions, or bug reports about a feature.
Instead, open a dedicated issue for the specific matter and add the relevant feature gate label.

Steps

Unresolved Questions

  • Should this threshold be configurable via the command line?
  • Should we split lint into multiple size limits lints?

    I managed to make some progress on this. However, other things have arisen that I would like to focus my attention on, so I will now unassign myself to unblock others from taking over the implementation of this feature. I want to thank my mentor oli-obk who was of great help during my work on this 🙏

    The next natural step for this feature would be to fix #121672.
    See the top issue description for a somewhat updated list of things to do after that.
