revision is one of the two counters that walk an issuance lineage forward, and it is the number CreateResult.version reports. Genesis moves from 0 to 1 so that 0 is free as the "serve the latest" sentinel every read lane accepts, and the width drops to uint32 to match the rest of the issuance version surface. Problem
revisioncounts supersessions within an issuance lineage, and it is the numbervaultuse.v1.CreateResult.versionreports to a caller. It is auint64that starts at 0 atgenesis.
The private side is pinning its issuance version surface to 1-based
uint32, with0reserved as the "serve the latest" sentinel on every lane that selects a version. That
settles the offset question the vault interface notes left open, where a 0-based custody
version had to be translated against 1-based KV-v2 versions on every read and write.
revisionhas to move with it: if genesis stays 0,CreateResult.versionreports 0 for abrand-new record, which is the sentinel rather than a version.
Fix
Genesis is revision 1, and the field narrows to
uint32.Wire-compatible in both directions:
uint32anduint64are both varint on the same fieldnumber, so no reserved range and no renumbering. Only the value at genesis changes.
Impact
Consumers that treated revision 0 as "the first version" now see 1. Nothing reads the field
as a presence signal today.
