feat(ctap): CTAP1/U2F over USB - #35
Conversation
- CTAPHID_MSG carries U2F register, authenticate and version (CTAP 2.2 §11.2.9.1.1); INIT reports the MSG capability. - U2F keys come from the recovery phrase and are sealed for the application parameter, so the same key handle also signs in through CTAP2 with the appid extension. - Each registration and signature is confirmed on the device; U2F is off while user verification is required for every ceremony. - fido_check.py covers register, sign-in, refusal and the appid sign-in on all five targets; a ctap1 fuzz target parses arbitrary messages.

🟡 Minor · Refuse a busy CTAPHID_MSG request with a U2F status word, not a CTAP2 status… · hid.rs:425-439
app/src/hid.rs:425-439
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winRefuse a busy
CTAPHID_MSGrequest with a U2F status word, not a CTAP2 status byte.This PR changes
DEVICE_INFO.msgtotrue(Line 216), so the transport now hands outCTAPHID_MSGrequests.refuse_requeststill answers every refused request with the one byte[StatusCode::ChannelBusy as u8].DeviceUi::take_eventcallsrefuse_requestwhen a HID request arrives during an NFC request screen or the settings list. For a U2F message, the host expects an APDU response that ends with a two-byte status word. A one-byte payload is malformed: python-fido2'sCtap1, for example, fails to parse it instead of retrying. Use the request's command to select the answer. ForCommand::Msg, sendctap1::StatusWord::ConditionsNotSatisfied, which U2F hosts treat as "retry later".🐛 Proposed fix

- Chromium's probe registration (application 0x41..., challenge 0x42...) shows a "Not registered" screen; either answer completes it with a registration for the probe application, since Chromium retries SW_CONDITIONS_NOT_SATISFIED until its timeout. A timeout or a cancel stays SW_CONDITIONS_NOT_SATISFIED. - A U2F request refused while another transport runs gets the two-byte SW_CONDITIONS_NOT_SATISFIED instead of the one-byte CTAP2 CHANNEL_BUSY (Command::busy_answer). - An extended APDU with Le alone (00 Le1 Le2) parses as carrying no data instead of SW_WRONG_LENGTH. - AGENTS.md records the seed-recoverable origin of U2F keys and the zero signature counter; code comments give the reasons, and why CTAP2 receives the appId as the rpId (WebAuthn L3 10.1.1). Regression tests: version_with_a_nonzero_extended_le, a_busy_refusal_answers_in_the_request_protocol, the_probe_registration_completes_after_the_not_registered_screen, an_unanswered_probe_is_conditions_not_satisfied.

- CTAP 2.2 11.2.9.1.5 limits CANCEL to a CTAPHID_CBOR request being processed and has it ignored otherwise; the transport now reports a CANCEL on the active channel only when the pending request is CBOR, so it can no longer end a U2F registration or sign-in waiting on its screen. - Golden snapshots of the "Not registered" probe screen for all five models, which the Speculos check compares. - Comments on why getInfo versions lists U2F_V2 first (6.4 sets no order for versions) and why P2 of every U2F command is not checked (no status word defined to refuse one). Regression test: cancel_does_not_reach_a_u2f_message.
