Question
Should the TextRefs association register itself in the Research Organization Registry (https://ror.org/) to obtain a ROR ID, and if so, when?
ROR identifies research organizations, not our reference data — so this is about the TextRefs association's institutional identity, complementing the association pages (src/content/docs/association/) and our POSI alignment.
Points to weigh
- Pro: a persistent org identifier for affiliations, funding/metadata records, and citation of TextRefs itself; low cost; standard practice for open-infrastructure orgs.
- Timing: ROR expects an established, verifiable organization. Are we far enough along (governance, statutes, public presence) to meet ROR's inclusion criteria?
- Fit: does a ROR ID change anything in the registry/standard, or is it purely organizational metadata (likely the latter)?
- Relation to identifiers we already document in
get-started/related-systems.md (VIAF/Wikidata are for works/people; ROR is for our org).
Desired outcome
A go / not-yet / no decision with rationale. If "go", a follow-up task to submit the ROR request and record the ID on the association pages.
